Below are a few of the core things City Church International believes to be true in the New Covenant:

  • We believe God is three in one, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life as a man fully, constraining His divinity within His humanity. He died on the cross for man's sin, was raised to life on the third day, sent His Holy Spirit to earth, and is seated in Heavenly places, making the way open for man to the Father.
  • We believe the Holy Spirit is the contact person of the trinity in the Earth and not a impersonal, indifferent force but our helper, comforter and friend.
  • We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe the New Covenant begins when Jesus died and rose again, not in Matthew 1. Jesus' words 'It is finished' signified the end of the Old Covenant because His sacrifice paid the penalty of first Adam's sin and fulfilled the Mosaic Law requirements on behalf of a believer.
  • We believe someone must receive Christ and His Righteousness by faith to be saved. This is not an automatic consequence of being human but is a choice given to man. Once made, it cannot be undone through sinning.
  • We believe 'Once saved, always saved'. Once we receive Christ's Righteousness by faith, nothing can separate us from relationship with God because nothing can separate Jesus from His Father.
  • We believe in Heaven and hell and that your actions on Earth do not decide your eternal destination - your Righteousness or lack thereof decides your destination. Only Jesus can save and without Him you are lost.
  • We believe in healthy local churches that meet regularly and have strong local leadership under Godly church government.
  • We believe in bringing your tithe (tithe literally means 10%) into the local church as a New Covenant declaration of faith, not an Old Covenant command to stay God's hand from cursing you. We believe we are blessed because of Jesus' finished work, not because we tithe; but the tithe is an overflow and opportunity in the New Covenant and a healthy faith action.
  • We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit and praying in tongues. When you become a believer the Holy Spirit dwells within your new creation spirit. The Holy Spirit can also come upon you in power.
  • We believe miracles and signs & wonders have not passed away and healing is available for anyone who believes. We expect to regularly see God's power working in our lives and believe this is normal Christianity.
  • We love people and accept them as they are, no matter their background or condition. We believe you belong, before you believe or behave. We create condemnation free atmospheres so people feel free to be who they are and allow God's love to bring them maturity, not pressuring or manipulating people into the right outward actions.
  • We believe Godly family is important and that God instituted marriage between a man and a women. We love and accept all people but do not dilute God's Word down to accommodate political agendas or social norms.
  • We believe life should be filled with joy and laughter and healthy relationships with God and one another. Life is a journey and no one has arrived at their destination, but God is cheering us on to great and wonderful things in Him.
